Does this happen if you install a fresh new clean copy of Windows XP as a guest?Īny chance your could try to either upgrade your existing driver, or completely uninstall your audio device and reinstall it again?

To me it sounds like there is some sort of conflict with your host audio driver. Here are my settings, I hope they help you: I am running VirtualBox (3.1.2 when posted) on a Windows 7 Host, and my Windows XP Guest plays audio just fine. On the VBox forums, I was asked to submit a bug report, I guess there is an issue there.

I just finished installing VMware 3.0 and loading XP Pro there. Setting the controller to soundblaster 16 lets the guest come up, but no audio device shows up in device manager or in the control panel app.Īny ideas how I can get sounds out of my guest OS?

Here are the last few lines of my log file: 00:00:00.840 NAT: adding 24.116.2.50 to DNS server listĠ0:00:00.840 NAT: adding 24.116.2.34 to DNS server listĠ0:00:00.840 NAT: value of BindIP has been ignoredĠ0:00:00.841 Audio: Trying driver 'dsound'.Ġ0:00:00.936 Audio: set_record_source ars=0 als=0 (not implemented)Īt that point the only thing I can do is kill the startup window. If I do this, though, then when I start up the XP guest, it hangs with a dialog box titled "XPPro: Starting virtual machine" and the message "Starting virtual machine." with a progress bar stuck at 0%. If you want sound, you need to select the Windows DirectSound for the host audio driver. As I understand it, that's what happens with Null Audio Driver. The Intel AC'97 Audio Controller shows up in my list of devices. If I set the host audio driver to "Null Audio Driver" and the audio controller to ICH AC97, all appears to work, except no sound comes out the speakers.

Because on Virtualbox's site they don't show every update in the older versions section, just to the tenth's column. As the subject says, I cannot get an XP guest to produce sound on my Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit host. And even better yet, direct me to where I can find it. So if anyone knows if this is the case please let me know. I want the one as fleshed out as possible before v5 came onto the scene. like a version 4.3.1, 4.3.2, etc.? If so I'd like to get my hands on it. I wonder if there were any other updates to v4.3 before it moved on to v5 though?. I know that v4 was designed to be able to utilize XP has a Host, and had many updates under it's belt I'm sure until updating to v5, which seems like it's had radical changes to it. going once, going twice?.Īctually I think I'd rather just use 4.3 anyway than a new major release that's still so young. has anyone used a higher version than that on XP SP3 x86?.

You always did come through for me MisterB. Okay, now I know I can at least use version 4.3 Thanks, that was a big help. On another machine I may put it on I have a Core 2 Duo CPU 3.0 GHz, 4 GB of RAM. 16 processes running at boot, 14 Services, and 3 Startup items. Processor power certainly isn't a problem. I have a Corei7 CPU 2.7 GHz on this machine, 4 GB of RAM (3.25 really). about my specs for more accurate responses. I guess I should have mentioned I'm running 32-bit XP SP3, and gave more info.
